The Lemon Family Summer Vacation 2010

Saturday, July 3rd...

Ate out for lunch (Mom always loves when she doesn't have to cook!) and took the family to the indoor swimming pool in Germantown. It's a big pool with high dives, tall slides, and a huge kids section with more slides and fountains. We had a lot of fun. Janae probably loved it the most and wanted to go down the slides over and over. Jacey finally tried the slides by herself in the last 5 minutes that the pool was open - she decided that it was fun after all! The best news is that they can both swim BY THEMSELVES with their floaties. Afterwards, we took some time to enjoy the scenery just outside the building. It's a beautiful area with hills, trees, and grassy places. The girls chased butterflies with Dad and Mom rested on the sidewalk!

Monday, July 5th...

Plans changed on this day. We were going to go camping, but after seeing that it would be 100 degress (plus humidity), we changed our minds. We drove north to a place called Cunningham Falls. There is a beautiful lake with imported white sand. The girls loved swimming in the water, playing in the sand, then swimming, then playing in the sand...etc.














It was hot, but the lake was the perfect spot to cool off. We ate hamburgers and greasy fries at a little shop nearby and then went swimming some more. The girls fell asleep pretty quickly on the way home! Funniest part of the day was in the morning when I got the girls ready for the beach. I decided to do their hair in pigtails...look what happens when I do the same hairdo on both long and short hair...












Tuesday, July 6th...









A grand adventure to Mount Vernon, VA.

We were a little hesitant to do this trip because the heat was supposed to get up to 103 degrees (plus humidity), but after looking at the rest of the week, which was mostly in the 100s, we decided to just go for it! We packed lots of water, sunscreen, and food and took the Metro and a shuttle to Mount Vernon. We toured the grounds and got to see how the workers would separate wheat from chaff. The girls even got to try to do it themselves. We saw the neat barn that Washington invented to separate the wheat from the stalk, the animals he used to care for, and of course the beautiful mansion with all the colorful rooms.









Right before we were going to tour the mansion, we were taking pictures and walking through the grass. I looked down and noticed a lot of clover - with a whole bunch of bees to go with it. I was a bit nervous for the girls since they were walking around in sandals.









Just as I was going to suggest that we go back on the dirt road, I heard Janae start crying/screaming. Yep, she got stung on her toe! Poor girl, she was so sad, so we found a worker to see if they had any antihistamine cream, and they were using their walkie talkies to get their first aid person up to where we were. I guess other tourists could hear the conversation of the "little girl who was stung on the toe" because on the bus ride home, the other tourists noticed her bandaged toe and asked if she had been the one that they were radio-ing about. Other than that happenstance, we really enjoyed the visit. Since I was there last, they have built a beautiful museum and education center. We spent a lot of time there and the A/C felt very refreshing! We were going to try and visit the Air and Space museum as well, but by 4:30, we were all ready to go back and rest. Dad dropped us girl off at home to get ready for bed while he went to get pizza. The pizza tasted so good after all the touring that day!

Wednesday, July 7th...

Plans changed this day too. We were going to go to a free family movie at the theater, but by the time we arrived, the seats were all full! So we went to the library where we read with the girls, checked out our own movie to watch at home, and enjoyed the "discovery room" - a little room with lots of educational toys/games for children. We picked up lunch from Wendy's on the way home and then watched our movie pick from the library.

Thursday, July 8th...

This was one of the funnest days of our vacation. We visited a place called "Butler's Orchard." There are fun activities to do, lots of goodies to buy in their shop, and you can go pick-your-own produce. They had blueberries for picking. So we got a bucket and went on a tractor ride up to the blueberry patch. It was huge! And we all picked berries for about 40-45 minutes. Jacey was enjoying it so much that she didn't want to leave even thought we were all sweaty and super hot! The girls would try to find a shady spot and pick from the low branches. We brought our bucket back, paid for the berries, and enjoyed fresh blueberries when we got home. They were delicious!














Friday, July 9th...

We topped off our vacation by seeing the latest addition to the lemon family! Before going to see baby at the doctor's office, we ate at one of my favorite restaurants, got a chocolate from the Lindt store, looked around a sporting goods store, and let the girls play on a nearby playground. Then we went to my ultrasound appointment. We all watched closely and listened carefully to hear what the results were...a lively, active, beautiful baby BOY!!! We're excited to have little Eric Dane coming to our home! Everything looks good so far; we are so grateful. It was a perfect way to top off our vacation!
